The Jesuit Refugee Service is an international Catholic organisation with a mission to accompany, serve and defend the rights of refugees and forcibly displaced people around the world and in our own Australian community.
JRS Australia works with asylum seekers and refugees by responding to their plight in a manner that is both personal and practical. JRS particularly focuses on urgent needs where no one else is working.
We support asylum seekers in the community with accommodation, financial assistance, English classes, job search and personal support and accompaniment. We also provide support to those who have been granted refugee status to find employment and offer assistance with their transition to independence.
Volunteers transform JRS into an organisation that actively lives out its mandate: to accompany, serve and advocate on behalf of asylum seekers and refugees. Without volunteers, JRS would not be able to provide asylum seekers and refugees with the high level of care for which it is renowned.
